I could still remember the time when my elementary school nurse told me that I had a cold. Whatever the school nurse told me, I believed in. In fact, I didn’t even tell my parents until sometime later. I could still remember how stuffy my nose was. If it wasn’t stuffy, it was draining.
A couple of years later, I started to question if the nurse was actually telling me the truth. “How could a cold last so long and happen so often?” So I decided to pay a visit to the junior high school nurse. This other school nurse confirmed that I was having symptoms of allergies.
I asked my parents about getting allergy medicine from the supermarket. They never used it before and had no clue. My mom bought some, but it wasn’t the non-drowsy kind for sure. I could still recall how drowsy I was during school time. I could recall that my eighth grade teacher put me aside and asked me if I was consuming illegal drugs and wanted to talk to my parents.
That was the start of my sinus infection problems. There are 2 kinds of sinus infection and they have symptoms that are similar to, or could be aggravated by allergies. Acute and chronic are the 2 types.
Here are the symptoms:
Acute Sinusitis Symptoms
* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems
* Headaches
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes
Symptoms of Chronic Sinus Infection
* Prolonged headaches
* Chronic sore throat
* Pain below the eyes
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Toothaches
* Chronic nasal discharge
How Long Do These Sinus Infection Symptoms Last?
As you can see, these symptoms have some similarities. The main difference is how long they occur and the severity of the symptoms. Acute sinus infections can last for several weeks. You can have chronic symptoms off and on throughout the year.
